Moulin Rouge

February 9th, 2012

  •

A young writer named Christian travels to Paris during the height of the Bohemian revolution at the turn of the 20th century. He befriends a group of Bohemians, led by the artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, who believe in truth, beauty, freedom and, above all things, love.

The Bohemians take Christian to the Moulin Rouge, the infamous dancehall. They hope Satine, the club’s most popular performer and courtesan, will convince the owner, Howard Zidler, to stage their musical: Spectacular! Spectacular! When Christian and Satine meet they fall in love as they dance across the rooftops of Paris. But someone else has eyes for Satine — the rich, powerful and very jealous Duke.

The Duke agrees to finance the musical if Satine becomes his personal courtesan. As they rehearse, Satine’s dream of leaving the Moulin Rouge to become a legitimate actress finally seems within reach. But when the Duke’s jealousy is ignited, Satine must make a difficult and dangerous choice. True love is tested, and there is something even more deadly than the Duke that threatens everything.
